Frequently Asked Questions
1. What types of franchises are available to me? All American Pet Resorts offers two types of franchises.
In some markets, we offer single site franchises. In larger markets we offer both single or multi-site agreements.
Multi-Site agreements are called Area Development Agreements. Area Developers commit to a specific number of sites within
a designated area. In some markets a Day Care only facility may be offered.
2. What qualifications do you seek in a potential franchisee? We are looking for franchisees who want economic
independence for themselves while elevating the quality of care provided to America’s beloved pets. Specifically,
potential franchisees must have an unqualified love of pets, a background in business and the necessary financial resources
to develop the facility effectively and according to All American Pet Resorts standards.
3. Is it necessary for me to work in my facility? Not necessarily. Many franchise prospects are looking
for a lucrative opportunity for their adult children. While we believe that professional management is critical to your
success, we know that with our training almost anyone can become a successful boarding/daycare operator. If you have
prior management experience, we encourage you to be active in the day-to-day operation of your business. If not, you may
wish to employ appropriately skilled management.
4. How much can I make? Profitability depends on several factors, including your ability to manage the business,
location, bookings and operating costs. These factors and others all affect the profit a facility can generate.
When we begin serious discussions regarding our franchise programs, we will provide you with the appropriate Uniform Franchise Disclosure
Document (UFDD). Financial performance of our model facility is provided in that document. Depending on the
concept that you select, whether boutique or full size facility, certain other historical financial performance information
may be provided and discussed at the face-to-face franchise concept meetings.
5. How do I know if an All American Pet Resort franchise is right for me? Like owning any business, franchising
is not right for everyone. You must be willing to duplicate the successful business model that the franchisor will provide
and be very comfortable with personnel management, financial management, marketing and business development. For the
right person and the pet lover, owning an All American Pet Resort franchise can be a rewarding and profitable business opportunity.
6. How long is the training program? Formal training is conducted in 3 Phases. Phase 1 is a minimum of
7 days. Phases 2 & 3 are an additional 7 days. This intensive program is conducted both in your facility and
in one of our designated facilities. You will be provided an in-depth Operations Manual that will provide you with all
of the written materials you will need for employee matters, basic pet care, advanced pet care and more. In our facility,
you will learn the practical application of techniques taught in the Operations Manual. We will also help you apply
the practical knowledge you learned at our facility and modify it specifically to fit your workflow.
7. What happens after I submit my application? After receiving your application, we will review your information and determine if you meet the initial qualifications.
Following our review, you will be contacted by our Franchise Development department who will do these next steps:
- Perform a telephone interview*
- Provide you with a copy of the UFDD
- And schedule the first meeting.
*We may require that you visit us at our home office or one of
our franchise locations for an in-person interview.
8. How long does it take to get a facility operational? Just as we have stated above, there are many factors
that determine your time to market. One is the building itself. Ask yourself these questions. Will the site
require new construction or is there an existing building? If there is an existing building, will you lease it or buy
it? Will you lease the equipment or buy it? Depending on the type of franchise selected your facility could be
operational in from 6-18 months.
9. Will I have a protected Territory? Yes. You will have a geographically defined territory that precludes
All American Pet Resorts or any of our affiliates from placing a location within your defined territory.
10. What is included in the franchise system? All American Pet Resorts provides you with at a minimum: use of
the marks, pet care processes and procedures, marketing materials, operational systems and methods. Additionally, you
will receive support in these areas:
- Facility
planning and architectural design
- Specifications
for fixtures, equipment and leasehold improvements
- Assistance
in site selection
- In-depth assistance evaluating
your market and other pet care facilities within that market
- Training
- Operational manuals,
policies, procedures and business management systems
11. How much money do I need to have in order to open a franchise? These are estimated costs in the UFDD and below. Cost estimates
do NOT include the physical building. Cost estimates below are based on facilities designed with 100 pet boarding
suites. Should you prefer a boutique style facility, a safe cost estimate would be approximately 1/2 of the "High"
but no lower than $250,000.00.
